PTPTN Announces Simpan SSPN Dividend of 3.60 Percent

The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) announced that the dividend distribution for The National Education Savings Scheme (Simpan SSPN) for the year 2023 is 3.60 percent with an allocation amounting to RM357.65 million benefiting 6.25 million accounts. This brings the total dividend distribution to RM1.69 billion since Simpan SSPN was introduced in 2004.

This dividend will be directly credited into the Simpan SSPN accounts and depositors can check their individual savings statements through the myPTPTN app starting from 6 April 2024 (Saturday).

The Simpan SSPN dividend distribution for the year 2023 was announced by YB Dato’ Seri Diraja Dr. Zambry Abd Kadir, Minister of Higher Education, at the Ministry of Higher Education (MOHE) lobby today. Also present were YB Datuk Ts. Mustapha Sakmud, Deputy Minister of MOHE, YBhg. Datuk Norliza Abdul Rahim, Chairman of PTPTN, YBhg. Dato’ Seri Ir. Dr. Zaini bin Ujang, Secretary General of MOHE, YBrs. Mr. Ahmad Dasuki Abdul Majid, Chief Executive of PTPTN, the top management of MOHE and the management of PTPTN.

THE DIVIDEND RATE FOR SIMPAN SSPN OF THE YEAR 2023 HAS INCREASED

The distribution of a 3.60 percent dividend for the year 2023 is higher compared to the dividend distribution of 3.05 percent in 2022. This clearly demonstrates PTPTN's efficiency in managing savings funds effectively based on excellent, integrity-driven, and strategic governance to ensure optimal returns are provided to customers.

The higher dividend payout is supported by positive investment returns with the investment profit for the year 2023 amounting to RM446.22 million. Investment performance has continued to improve in 2024 based on the achievements of the first quarter of 2024 which are better compared to the same period in 2023.

The increase in the Simpan SSPN dividend rate corresponds with the rise in the Overnight Policy Rate (OPR) by Bank Negara Malaysia, which increased by 0.25 percent in 2023. Moreover, this dividend rate is competitive as it is higher than the interest rates of savings and fixed deposit accounts in local banks which range between 2.05 percent and 3.45 percent. Therefore, this dividend rate represents a more profitable return making Simpan SSPN remain competitive and relevant as comparable to other products in the market.

SIMPAN SSPN IS THE BEST EDUCATION SAVINGS INSTRUMENT

In 2023, the Simpan SSPN deposits received amounted to RM3.15 billion and 513,002 new accounts were recorded. Meanwhile, the total accumulated Simpan SSPN deposits received from 2004 until 31 December 2023 amounted to RM17.39 billion involving 6.25 million accounts. This impressive performance demonstrates the continued confidence and support of Simpan SSPN depositors.

Simpan SSPN is the best product for the Malaysian community to save for their children's higher education.
